Its been a hectic few weeks and thus the lack of posts recently. All this was capped by memorial weekend. Long story short, I didn’t have access to my camera and couldn’t take pictures at the crawfish event. It was a sad sad day. But then again, I’m in NY and food events happen almost every day. I attended the TASTES from the Meatpacking District through Chelsea event this past weekend with my trusty camera in tow. It was a small event but wow was the food and live entertainment good.
Best of all, it was to raise funds for essential programs at the LAB school. From their website “The NYC Lab School for Collaborative Studies is among the city’s most sought-after public schools for grades 6-12. Our students have won prestigious college scholarships from the New York Times. Our budding writers, some as young as 12, pick up prizes every year in the highly regarded Scholastic Art and Writing Awards against top competition from the best private schools. Lab also boasts a nationally recognized inclusion program for special education students, enhancing the educational experience for all learners.”

Back to the event. My favorite was probably the Pork Terrine with Spicy Mustard and Pickled Ramps from Trestle on Tenth and the Ginger Shortcakes with Rhubarb Sauce and Hudson Valley Cream from The Green Table. Other dishes being served included foie gras mousse, sushi, samosas, pulled pork, desserts, meatballs and lobster rolls. The entertainment put on by the students was nothing short of jaw-dropping. I thought they were playing recordings until I saw the kid bellow out jazz tunes and others playing the drums and keyboard. I’d pay to watch that again.
In all, great food and great time for a great cause. Props to the following restaurants for participating. 5 Ninth, Amy’s Bread, Barocco Café, Billy’s Bakery, Bombay Talkie, Buddakan, Cookshop, The Green Table, Il Bordello, Klee Brasserie, Knickerbocker Bar & Grill, La Bottega, Le Gamin Mobi, Macelleria, Matsuri, Ono in Hotel Gansevoort, Pastis, The Red Cat, Rocking Horse Cafe, Smorgas Chef, Son Cubano, Spice Market, Tia Pol, Trestle on Tenth and Zampa

Equally good was the beautiful weather. Give me 75 degrees, a slight breeze and 30 restaurants in one block and I’m in heaven. More pictures can be found on my facebook album here http://is.gd/KpsL
